Back to school: Stress and Anxiety
Helloo it's Maya! School has started back up again. The feel of school life is different and I'm in a reflective mood. I wanted to give some of my personal ways of coping with stress, anxiety and returning to close friends which I very much missed over the holidays to find the clique is not quite there.
Stress and anxiety are two horrible feelings that can be easily avoided if you know the right methods to do so. Here are my personal ways to cope with all these feels.
1) Foresee the stress:
Plan ahead and see what events you have coming up like exams or a parents evening that you are worried about, really just ANYTHING that could possibly make you stressed. Mine is doing my maths homework well before its due. I know I have dance Monday evenings and Tuesdays is tuition. If my maths is due on Wednesdsy....well I'll be well and truly stuffed! Acknowledge and accept that you will be stressed if you don't plan and start mentally preparing.
2) Take your mind out of the situation:
Stress and anxiety can be a real pain in the stomach and a damn annoying distraction. If you ever feel like you cannot physically cope with the feeling in your stomach anymore and think you are going to explode then HELLO.....you need away to escape and you can do several things.
Lose yourself in music:
Stick some headphones in to your PC or Phone and crank up the volume, shut your door and tell your parents not to disturb you. Soon enough you will be lost within the lyrics of Jumpman by Drake and rapping along. Do this for around half an hour or as long as you feel you need to until your ready to carry on with your daily tasks.
Make time for you: Join an extra curricular club that requires lots of energy and focus. With Dance, you can really do anything that doesn't allow you to think about your problems in the moment. This works as a distraction and is a good break for your mind, it'll help prevent those headaches and migraines that come with being stressed so when you come out of the studio you won't feel anxious for a while and when you do feel anxious follow the next tip.
I found this technique from the internet but I can't remember where. Take a step back and look at yourself from the outside looking in: Close your eyes. Take a breath, with every breath zoom out of your life and from the outside in and see yourself from a different perspective. Imagine yourself sitting as you are now sitting by a window, with the next breath zoom out some more. Imagine your house on your road, then your road among others, then your town, continent, Earth and finally the universe.
By doing this it helps me realise just how insignificant my problems are compared to the whole universe. We are just too tiny too small to see the speck of life in a possibly lifeless universe. Our problems mean nothing compared to stars blowing up, universe expansion and all that other stuff. It helps me calm down and combat the problem in a more calm manner.
I would love to read your tips and I hope these help.
